As a girl from a lower-middle class family, Nagamani simply could not turn down her parents’ wishes. Interestingly, her dreams took wings after the marriage when an Information Technology (IT) firm- TechBulls, was set up close to her village. Thanks to the encouragement from the husband and in-laws, Nagamani grabbed the opportunity to work as software engineer in the TechBulls after clearing three-rounds of interview and test.
“It is really a dream coming true. I lost hope when I got married three years ago. Luckily, the arrival of Tech Bulls to our area has helped me realise my dream,” said Nagamani. She said that her social status among the family and village was enhanced with her IT job.
Interestingly within a year, she emerged as one of the top performing employees in the company. Nagamani is one of many women who could realise their goals of becoming a techie post-wedding or struck back in villages due to family reasons chiefly thanks to the arrival of a dedicated IT firm-“Tech Bulls” to a small town of Ongole. At present, nearly 95 women, mostly post-graduates, were working in Techbull, which is over 70 percent of its workforce.
Nalamalapu Bhaskara Reddy, native of Karavadi in Prakasam district, got settled in South Africa by setting up various industries in pharmacy, IT and real-estate. Subsequently, Bhaskara Reddy launched his firms in several other nations including UAE. After building a business empire, Bhaskara Reddy thought of ‘giving it back to the home’ and decided to start an IT firm in home town Ongole. However, many of his friends and well-wishers discouraged him when he wanted to set up the IT firm near Ongole.
However, Bhaskara Reddy went ahead as he believed that rural youth will do wonders. Interestingly, the students completely from village background proved that they were second to none and put the IT firm on the right track of revenues. “Majority of the youngsters working in metros were also from our villages. I have confidence that they will deliver the goods with little encouragement and required training. They have proved me right,” Bhaskara Reddy told ‘TOI.’
Another woman Pothuri Kavitha did MTech from an engineering college in Ongole but failed to move to big city as she got married. With the backing of husband Srinivasa Rao, Kavitha has joined as software professional in Techbulls close to her native place. Interestingly, Techbulls is now home for about 95 women who proved their metal as IT professionals.
“Our management has become a model for other big IT companies to set their foot in tier-II and tier-III cities and tap the rural talent. We are working from an office close to our home. This is a new model of work from home cum office,” said another IT professional Paramkusam Swathi.
Bhaskara Reddy said that they have been roping in senior professionals and managers from big cities to fine tune the fresh graduates from rural areas.
